Why won't my iPhone charge?
Charging problems are one of the most common things customers bring in, and thankfully also one of the cheapest to fix. Here's how to work out what's actually wrong.
Check the simple stuff first
Try a different cable and charger, and look for dust, lint or debris in the charging port — by far the most common cause of poor charging, and something we can often fix with a thorough cleaning, no parts replaced. Also check whether the screen shows a "moisture detected" warning — the port needs to dry out completely before it'll charge normally again.
Charging slowly, or not at all?
Slow or unstable charging usually points to a dirty or lightly damaged charging port, or a worn cable. No charging at all can mean a loose or broken charging port, a faulty battery, or in rarer cases a motherboard fault.
When should you get it checked?
If cleaning and a new cable don't help, it's usually the charging port or battery that needs replacing. Both are quick, affordable repairs that are normally done the same day.
